What is the difference between Legal Separation and Divorce?

The difference between a legal separation and divorce is that at the end of a legal separation, the parties are still married. In both a legal separation and a divorce the court will be able to divide property, determine child custody and support, and spousal support. However, for a number of reasons parties may not be willing to complete the divorce process. This could be because the parties may want to reconcile later on or the parties want to maintain insurance or employee benefit coverage.
